The children then walked across town to Our Lady & St. Anne Line Catholic Church, in Mill Lane, Great Dunmow.  The children learnt about the stations that lead to Jesus' death on the cross.

The young adults area storing the likes of Harry Potter and the Twilight series - although they were all out on loan!!

The sun was shining on the day that our year 5 children took a trip into town. First port of call was the United Reformed Church in New Street, Great Dunmow.

Special thanks to everyone at the United Reform Church, also at Our Lady & St. Anne Line Catholic Church.  Thank you also for a very warm welcome from the staff the the library.  And without the support of the school staff along with Mrs. Briggs, Mr. Church, Mrs. Brolly, Mrs. Blower and Mrs. Annetts the children would not have been able to visit these places within our community. - Thank you all.
All of the prominent symbols relating to the Catholic religion were covered in preparation of the up and coming Easter celebrations.
Smiles all round before the walk back to school!
Special requests are stored ready for collection, along with orders from Book Clubs.
Technology taken over with the brand new returns system.  You can extend your borrowing online also.
Back to the town centre to the newly built library.  The library staff had kindly set aside a room for us to have our lunch after talking to us about the services the library provides the community with.
A simple organ in comparison to that in the United Reform Church.

The tabernacle set behind the alter in the Catholic Church.

The picture of the last supper differs enormously to that of the tapestry in the United Reform Church.
The picture to the right is in fact a tapestry depicting the last supper.

On the alter is one of the many trays which hold tiny glasses.  The chairs have been specially designed so that once you have shared the 'wine' you can place the empty glass in a small holder at the rear of the chair in front of you!

During the refurbishments the original ceiling and terraced area was boarded up.  Only by entering through a tiny doorway can you see the vast space which is still there.

The organ is accessed via a narrow staircase towards the rear of the church.  Once you reach the top of the stairs you are immediately welcomed by the back of the huge organ, with its hand powered pumping handle!
To the left is one of the flower posts. These posts were originally part of the elaborate staircase leading to the lectern.

Below shows the alter and lectern in a little more detail.  The lectern was accessed by the large ornate staircase which lead from one side to the other

The picture to the right shows the original alter and lectern along with the first floor terrace.

The children listened intently whilst learning about the history of the United Reformed Church.  We were shown photographs of how the building looked before it was closed for 8months in 2007 for refurbishments.
