To finish their topic work the children created these fabulous death masks - Did you know that the Egyptian death masks were used as part of their funeral rituals. It was thought that these items, including death masks, needed to be preserved so that the person could enjoy the afterlife. The purpose of these death masks was to give the dead a face in the afterlife. They were also thought to allow the spirit to recognize the body and also to allow them to be recognized and accepted by other people in the realm of the dead. Egyptian death masks could be very elaborate, depending on the status of the person who was deceased.

During their topic work the children looked at the type of clothes the Egyptian people wore, and they then designed their own colourful collar.  Everyone tried really hard to copy the design that they had planned and proudly wore their works of art on the day.

The dress code was white - but we certainly jazzed it up when we made our Egyptian collars - in the past it has been cut up fabric or stuck on metallic foils but this year we opted for a truly messy affair with the children finger painting - only it wasn't just the fingers that got paint on them!!  The few picture below show Lewis, Alex and Marc taking great care creating their collars.
